About us

After trying our best to "fit-in" in various towns and cities, we decided to get married, move back to our family farm, and build our futures together at the only place that either one of us dreamt of calling home.

Our dream is to create an unforgettable tourist destination so that we can continue the family's legacy of farming in southern Africa whilst empowering local people through job creation and supporting ecological sustainability.

Today, we are living comfortably on our newly constructed farmstead with 4 dogs, 5 chickens, 6 cats, 13 horses, 104 sheep, and a range of wildlife.

Anna

Anna grew up on the family farm with her older brother and sister, Kobus and Jo-Marie. She went to school in Keetmanshoop until the age of 13 when her parents decided to send her off to boarding schools in South Africa.

After schooling, Anna worked for various people focusing mainly on horse rehabilitation, trail riding, waitressing, and administrative work, until Anna and Darren decided to move back to the family farm to start The Farm Life - Namibia.

Anna is not very comfortable in large-crowds and finds the vast open spaces soothing for her soul. She also loves animals and wishes that she had trained to be a vet, especially since she often has to be the vet for sick or injured animals on our farm ... or even on one of our neighbouring farms as people have learnt to respect her natural manner with all animals.

Anna's dream was always to live on a farm and work with horses. She has become a certified Horsemaster and also enjoys cooking, baking, yoga, hiking (when her knee allows), reading fantasy romantic novels, watching TV, and computer games.

Darren

Darren had a bit of a nomadic upbringing. He was born in South Africa but had also lived in Australia, England, and Singapore, by the age of 15. Having been schooled in Australian and English boarding schools, most people realise that he didn't acquire his accent in our local Namibian community.

After university, Darren became a finance manager for some of the largest property developers in London, living that fast-paced lifestyle for about 7 years. In 2015, he decided to take a 6-month sabbatical from London's building sites to work with conservation projects in Namibia and travel with friends in North and South America. It was during those first 3 months in Namibia that Anna and Darren first met.

Darren then struggled to fit back into his old London life-style before making the decision in 2018 to search for a different career path in South Africa. Inadvertently, he then found himself moving, slowly but surely, closer and closer to where Anna grew up, on the family farm in Namibia.

Darren studied Economics and Accounting at Bristol university, before becoming a qualified CIMA accountant, PRINCE2 Project Management, Business Systems Analyst, and TEFL teacher during his previous life.

He enjoys being around animals, almost any outdoor activity/sport, cooking, meditation, educational books, watching TV, and computer games.
