During your stay with us, you are more than welcome to sit back and relax, explore the farm on your own, and soak up the rejuvenating atmosphere whilst we carry on with our day and prepare the meals.
Alternatively, you can speak with us about our organized activities.
Our organized activities are included in the price of your stay, except for the horse trails and riding lessons.
If we do not have any guests staying with us, we also take bookings for "day visitors".
Whether you have grown up with horses in your life or whether you have never met a horse before, we would enjoy the opportunity to introduce you to our friendly herd.
Roughly half of our herd are registered Nooitgedachters, and the other half are a mixed bunch of horses that we have adopted from friends and family or "rescued".
Take your choice of sitting comfortably inside with the air-conditioning or standing on the back with the wind in your hair as we take you on a tour of our family farm which our father bought from Consolidated Diamond Mines (CDM) back in 1985.
We will take you to the kraals where we work the cattle, house the new lambs, where the farm workers live, and the small vegetable patches and orchards that the farm workers are responsible for.
There are plenty of farm roads, dry river beds, and animal paths that you could use to guide you on a hike across our 22,000 hectare farm.
Alteratively, if you are feeling adventurous, you are more than welcome to make your path and use the geological framework of the farm's valleys to find your way home.
We would be more than happy to join you for a walk. When we say "we", that includes at least the 4 dogs ... and possibly a cat or two!
Due to the quality of Namibia's night skies, the NamibRand Nature Reserve has been designated as a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve. Our farmstead is roughly 60km from the NamibRand Nature Reserve with our closest neighbour being over 10km away.
As a result, we have some of the most incredible night skies you are likely to see during your lifetime.
We have recently purchased a Celestron StarSense Explorer LT80 telescope which has a highest useful magnification of 189x, making things such as the rings of Saturn visible from our garden.
We offer a standard range of between 1-hour and 3-hour horse trails.
In the 1-hour and 2-hour rides, riders stay in our valleys and avoid the stoney parts of our farm almost entirely.
The 3-hour trail ride involves riding to one of our viewpoints. This means that the ride is about soaking up the atmosphere whilst climbing and crossing the stoney mountain, and then it's up to you how much we let the horses loose on the open stretches.
For the more experienced riders, we also offer a full moon ride, rounding up cattle on horseback, and taking the horses out to explore the farm for as many hours as you would like to.
If you would like to learn how to ride a horse, or work on your riding skills, in a more controlled environment, Anna is a certified Horsemaster and has several years of experience in helping people of all ages to ride a horse for the first time, giving lessons to children as young as 4, and offer simple tips and advice for beginners.
We have some adorably calm horses, 2 round pens, an arena, and an ever-improving obstacle course. This will allows Anna to tailor your lessons to suit your needs.
For those of you who are planning a trip to Namibia a bit further into the future, we are also planning a shooting range.
We would like to offer guests the opportunity to fire recurve bows, crossbows, air rifles, a 2.2, and, for adults who are looking for slightly more of a kick, a .308.
Our main issue is with getting a supplier to deliver the equipment to one of our closest towns in Namibia. We hope that we will be able to get the equipment here and build a simple shooting range by the end of July at the latest.
Take your pick from one of our horse trails or riding lessons, enjoy a leisurely shower afterwards, and join us for a home cooked meal of your choosing.
Guests not taking part in the riding are more than welcome to make themselves at home at our farmstead whilst waiting. Guests can either relax on the stoep with a coffee, make use of our wi-fi, go for a hike/run, or keep the dogs entertained with a never-ending game of fetch.
Please be aware that an additional hour should be added to the riding times if the guest(s) would like to help with grooming the horses and tacking up before the riding begins.
Meet us at our farmhouse for a coffee or cool drink before we take you out for a tour of our family farm before bringing you back to our stoep for a home cooked meal of your choosing.
